Whether your summer travel plans include a tropical getaway, a trip to Disney, or visiting family, they should all include one thing – travel insurance.
Why? Because traveling alone or with the entire family is difficult enough without worrying about the many things that can unexpectedly ruin your vacation. From cancelled and delayed flights to the flu virus that leaves you too sick to travel, you never know what might change your traveling plans. That’s why we recommend having travel insurance. So, no matter what happens, the travel insurance and assistance services through our vendors can be there anytime, anywhere. Trip cancellation coverage included with many of the travel insurance plans can cover your pre-paid non-refundable trip costs if your trip gets cancelled due to weather, illness or other covered reasons. If you reach your destination but your baggage doesn’t, many plans include 24/7 baggage tracking that can ensure you have what you need for your trip. Not to mention that not all health insurance will cover your illness once you’re “out of country”. Many plans offer emergency medical expense coverage.
While traveling with insurance, we can help your vacation plans go a lot smoother when unexpected events occur. Call us for more details.

Some more helpful hints:
- When traveling with children, use your cell phone or digital camera and take a picture of your kids each morning. Then if they get separated from you, you will have an exact description of what they look like and what they were wearing that day.
- Pack, then unpack. Take half the clothes and twice the money! Also, when traveling with your family or a companion; pack part of each of your clothes in each other's suitcases. That way, if one suitcase gets delayed or lost everyone will still have some clothing. Nothing is worse than having to go right out and buying your whole wardrobe over again.....at your destination.
- Keeping a copy of your passport with you while you travel is a good idea. You should also scan your passport and then email it to yourself. Then you can access your email from anywhere and print your passport or send it to the proper authorities via email as well.
- Cruise tip: When you go on cruises, it is unlikely that you will know every port. Talk to the port/shopping person on board each ship. They do know the best ways to get around and can give invaluable advice on times to return to the ship.
- With cell phones being so expensive to use in foreign countries and on cruise ships, pick up a set or two of GOOD walkie-talkies for keeping track of companions while outside the USA. Knowing that you can get in touch with your teenagers or even other adults, while out and about, should make everyone a little less wary of new surroundings. BE SURE TO PUT YOUR NAME, ADDRESS and CELL NUMBER on each unit.
- Keep up with new airport policies. For example, since January 1, 2008, no loose lithium batteries are allowed in checked luggage.
- Tag your bag with bright colors to make it easier to find and to prevent other travelers from mistaking it for their own, and make sure ALL of your pieces of luggage have address tags.
- If you’re traveling with gifts, leave them unwrapped until you arrive at your final destination for security purposes.
- Keep a copy of your itinerary in each piece of your checked luggage in case it is lost. Airlines will be able to easily identify which pieces are yours and where they should be sent to.
- Check your airline's luggage requirements. Some airlines are beginning to charge extra for more than one checked bag.
- Check policies for the size and amount of carry-on luggage requirements in other countries before traveling overseas – requirements differ between countries and airports.
- Keep medicines (both prescription and OTC) in their original, labeled containers to avoid any hold-ups at security check points.
- Avoid wearing heavy jewelry, large belt buckles and clothing with metal buttons, snaps or studs, and do not put metallic items into your carry-on luggage. You'll prevent delays in getting through security at the airport.
- Leave copies of your travel itinerary and passport with friends or family at home in case your documents are lost or stolen, or if anyone at home needs to reach you while traveling.
- Bring Ziploc bags in a variety of sizes. They’re useful for packing snacks, wet laundry, trash, organizing film, keeping a camera dry.
