 Europe
England
Until recently England was generally thought of as a gentle, fabled land freeze-framed sometime in the 1930s, home of the post office, country pub and vicarage.  It's now better known for vibrant cities with great nightlife and attractions, contrasted with green and pleasant countryside.  From Stonehenge and Tower Bridge to Eton and Oxford, England is loaded with cherished icons of a past era.  But it also does modernity with a confidence and panache left over from its days in the never-setting sun.  Fashion, fine dining, clubbing, shopping - England's rates with the world's best. The UK today is a diverse patchwork of native and immigrant cultures, possessing a fascinating history and dynamic modern culture, both of which remain hugely influential in the wider world. Although Britannia no longer rules the waves, the UK is still a popular destination for many travellers. The capital city of the United Kingdom (and the largest city) is London.
France
France is the most visited country in the world. It has everything that you could ever want to see on your holidays: a great city like Paris, good beaches, more monuments than any other country, lovely nature, incredible mountain scenery; need I go on?  France is also a very pleasant place to stay.  It has good food, great wines and people enjoy their lives.  And the best thing is, maybe apart from Paris, living in France does not have to be expensive.  The North of France consists of the flatlands around the town of Lille and the Channel.  The area will remind visitors in many ways of Belgium and the Netherlands.  The Grand Place in Lille for example is a lot like that of Brussels.
For visitors, all of France can seem like a market -- it's one of those rare countries where every region offers something worthwhile and distinctive.  Paris represents the height of fashion, art and food -- its sense of style is so strong it intimidates some visitors, yet the city can also be remarkably comfortable and intimate.  The provinces offer their own landscapes and cultures: the glittering crowds of the Cote d'Azur, the elegant chateaus of the Loire Valley, the hospitable vineyards of Bordeaux, the rocky coasts of Brittany, the dramatic slopes of the Alps and the Pyrenees and the charming farms and villages of Provence.  The country can satisfy just about any traveler's taste.
Italy
Land of the sweet life, it is little wonder that this country is one of the world's best-loved destinations -- two-thirds of the world's historical artistic heritage is in Italy.  Tuscany alone possesses more artistic treasures than the all of Spain, which is the second country in the world for cultural heritage.  A visit to Italy is a lesson in living well.  Open-air vegetable and fruit markets, neighborhood bakeries and fresh cheeses made daily are fixtures of Italian life.  Tradition, though, is still a major part of Italian life.  Neighbors still meet in the piazza to discuss the day, laundry is still line-dried, even in the largest of cities, and Italians are known for the evening leisurely strolls -- preferably with a gelato in hand.  From the mountains to the coasts, the emphasis is on simple pleasures and high quality.

Germany
Having put itself back together again, Germany and its visitors are reaping the rewards of unity.  Huge investments in infrastructure and services are not only erasing the Cold War dividing lines, scars caused by World War II are also finally disappearing.  In real terms, this means that travelers are likely to move around the country faster, dine better and experience new attractions, such as the Reichstag's glass dome.  A lot has changed, yet chances are that repeat visitors will still find the things they always liked: the restaurant serving huge helpings of authentic German food with liter upon liter of lager and wheat beer.
